Reading the quotation
Dow Jones Industrial Average is read as an index level. Compare its percentage movement over the same period with other benchmarks; different starting levels do not measure the relative size or value of their markets.
Dow Jones is expressed in index points. A higher level represents an increase in the index, while a lower level represents a decrease. A point change and a percentage change describe different quantities.
Before trading
When following Dow Jones, keep the observation time and selected chart interval consistent. An index level is distinct from the price and order size of a contract linked to that index.
