Start with the labour market
The US Employment Situation report for September is scheduled for 2 October at 08:30 Eastern Time. Read the payroll and household measures together rather than treating a single headline as a complete picture.
A useful reading sequence is employment growth, unemployment, earnings and revisions. Write down the reporting period first: the release date and the month covered are different.
Then follow inflation
September consumer-price data are scheduled for 14 October, followed by producer prices on 15 October. Both releases are listed at 08:30 Eastern Time. These reports measure different parts of the price chain; their changes are not interchangeable.
Our editorial approach is to compare monthly momentum with the longer trend and inspect the components before drawing a conclusion. A calendar date identifies when to read a report; it cannot establish the result in advance.
Keep the policy calendar in view
The Federal Reserve lists its next October FOMC meeting for 27–28 October. The Bank of England lists its next MPC announcement for 5 November. The calendar links to both official schedules.
Separate the published decision from the explanation that accompanies it. Changes in expectations can matter as much as the decision itself, and neither a meeting nor a data release guarantees a particular market direction. Dates were checked on 1 October 2026 and can be revised by their publishers.
