Central-bank decisions and the currency conversation

Why the policy decision, accompanying explanation and future expectations belong in the same reading process.

Read the policy documents together

Central-bank calendars identify scheduled decisions and their associated publications. The Federal Reserve’s meeting page also links statements and minutes; the Bank of England distinguishes MPC decisions from Monetary Policy Report dates.

Read the decision first, then the explanation. Keep statements released on the decision date separate from minutes published later. A later document can add context without being a new decision.

Compare decisions with expectations

In our analytical framework, a currency discussion asks how a decision changes the expected path of policy relative to other economies. An unchanged rate can still accompany a changed explanation, while a rate move may have been widely anticipated.

This framework is an interpretation, not a formula for predicting prices. Growth conditions, risk appetite and other developments can affect the same currency at the same time. Avoid assigning every price movement to the latest announcement.

Plan around the published schedule

The October FOMC meeting is listed for 27–28 October 2026, and the next UK MPC announcement is listed for 5 November. Where a source confirms only a date, our calendar retains that date without assigning an unverified hour.

Schedules can change. Check the linked official page before relying on a date, and verify which document is expected to appear. This article provides context for reading policy information rather than a trading recommendation.
